Well back to busy-busy time!! Mum had her operation last Thursday and it went for 6 hours. The good news is that it was better than they thought. There were no nasty surprises and in fact they had a nice surprise (well as nice a surprise as it can be with cancer). What they thought was cancer on her liver, was in fact a cluster of cancer nodules in the peritoneum lining, which they were removing, so they didn’t have to touch her liver. They got all the cancer that the last surgeon left behind (looks as though cancer cells were sewn into the rejoining of the bowel as the cancer occurred at the join). They gave her an epidural for the op, so she was as bright as a button the next day and even got up and went for a walk… not bad after major abdominal surgery. Last night was the 5th and last night of putting the chemo liquid directly into her abdomen, then draining it out 12 hours later. They say she is doing so well (surprisingly so), that they are only expecting her to have to stay in hospital another couple of days… what can I say, they breed ‘em tough in the Australian country!!

I’ve had to redecorate my silver suit as I soaked it to get the tan off it and the silver came off the sequins as well!! I’m quite pleased with the way it turned out, as is my coach and the other girls down the gym. A couple of them are trying to line me up to decorate their suits next year… might have a side business going soon… LOL!!

I’m on holidays as of today, hence the time to actually finally be able to sit down and write my blog!! Yesterday was a real struggle… all the preparation and Mum’s op finally caught up with me I think. By 2pm in the afternoon I was so exhausted I was near tears and just wanted to go home. As always when tired, dieting was a real struggle (but a successful one) and watching other people eat deli-style baguettes and pasta just made me want to repeatedly bang my head against my desk. This happened on the Tuesday in the lead-up to the State comps too. From the experience of the State comps, I know I will diet easier when I am at home… there’s no temptation and I get a bit of rest so that will keep the emotional eating demons at bay :) I came home yesterday, ate, waited a couple of hours, ate again and was in bed before 8pm. I had 10 hours sleep so am feeling much more alive today!!

Good luck to the other competitors… I am so looking forward to catching up with everyone at the Nationals, although I don’t know how much time I will have. It’s a quick flying visit… fly in Thursday night, my schedule is in coach’s hands for Friday, then the comp on Saturday. But I will be coming out the front to the Sue section to catch up with everyone at some stage :) Saturday night coach is taking me and the other competitors out to dinner somewhere… can’t wait (especially to see the look of horror on his face when he sees what I can put away… LOL!!)… nah… he’s not that bad!! We went piece for piece with my chocolate at the last comp when he was helping me take off my tan… we even did a “cheers!!” with some chocolate, at least I know he’s human now :)

Then my friend is coming to pick me up at an ungodly hour on Sunday morning as I have to catch a plane at 10am, but we’re going to go for a breakfast somewhere and she will drop me off at the airport… then it’s home to make some homemade nachos and rocky road for Sunday as the nachos I had at the restaurant after my last comp were so disappointing!! I got halfway through the plate to find that the middle contained grated cheese and cold beans (they hadn’t heated it enough!!). When I sent it back, they must have zapped it in the microwave because the sour cream had coagulated on top… eeeeuw!! So I made up for it with a honeycomb heaven… small chocolate covered honeycomb pieces in the bottom of a sundae glass, topped with chocolate cookie dough, topped with a melted fantail sauce (fantails are chocolate coated chewy caramel lollies), topped with a scoop of chocolate icecream, then a scoop of vanilla icecream and finally topped with more chocolate covered honeycomb pieces!! Talk about death by sugar… gurgle!!

So I will still be munching Sunday, then Monday it’s off down to the gym to train again… I want to also discuss where my diet should go from here with coach and then maybe have a bit of a slack week food-wise before getting back into the healthy nutrition mindset… I can’t wait to finally be able to eat fruit again!! Especially coming up to summer with all that lovely summer fruit you can turn into fruit salad!!

I still haven’t got any photos of the comp. Coach’s wife took some on a digital camera, but they weren’t very good and coach wasn’t impressed… LOL!! I will scan in the professional ones when I get them, but won’t be able to organise that until a couple of weeks away. I am sure there will be some reliable digital camera operators at the National finals who will be able to get one or two good ones of each of us competitors!! :)

So that has been what is happening in a nutshell!!

Thanks so much to everyone for the congratulations for the last comp, and well wishes for the next comp!!
